The Group was founded at the beginning of 2007 by enthusiasts from Varese and province with a remarkable choral experience. The group’s name, which originates by the combination of two words, “ludus” and “canto”, emphasizes the intent to play with different music’s genres, ranging from sacred to profane, including Renaissance until the contemporary music.
The group, composed by 14 elements, has performed over 70 concerts so far. In 2009, October 24 it performed at the Conservatory of Music ‘Giuseppe Verdi’ in Como for the special occasion of the final concert-examination of the two-year period of Choral Music. It performed in collaboration with the Institute’s instrumentalists and choir, directed by Maestro Marco Croci, who conducts the Group since its constitution.
“Gruppo vocale LudiCanto” was involved in two concert tours in Germany. The first tour was held in 2010 when the Group performed with the Vokalensemble Ohrkohr in Aachen (Aquisgrana, at Annachirke), in Monschau (Auchirke) and at the Cologne Cathedral. The second tour was held in 2014, with the organist Claudio Novati, in Braunschweig (St Andreas Kirche), in Hankensbuttel (Kloster Isenhagen) and in Fallersleben (Wolfsburg, at St-Marien-Kirche). Furthermore, in 2014 the Group held a concert in Danis in Romansh Switzerland (Cantone Grigioni) with DeCanto’s male ensemble; later, the concert was rerun in Varese as well.
In 2010, it was published the first CD, “Sacred and Christmas music”, edited by Silvius Edizioni Musicali.
In 2011 the Group was involved in the project “dieci cori per la ricerca” which turned out in a concert held at S.Marco Cathedral in Milan and in the publication of a DVD which contains the event’s live taking.
In 2012, the Group took part in the making of the CD “Mondus Novus” produced by the School of Music “G. Rinaldi” in Reggiolo (RE), in order to fundraise for the school’s reconstruction, damaged by the earthquake in 2012, May 29.
Since 2008, the Group officially became a Cultural Association of social promotion. During the same year, it also joined the USCI (Unione Società Corali Italiane), section of Varese, and the FENIARCO (Federazione Nazionale Italiana Associazioni Regionali Corali).
